Updated Chicago Events and Demonstrations: July 15 to July 31, 2022

In coordination with our cross-sector public safety partners, we are continuing to monitor the following special events and demonstrations in or near the Chicago Loop in coming days. Street closures are also being put into effect for the upcoming Lollapalooza Music Festival, held from July 28th through 31st.

Anticipated Activity

  • Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17: 1501 W Randolph (Union Park), Group will gather for their event “Pitchfork Music Festival”
  • Saturday, July 16 at 5:30pm: 337 E Randolph (Maggie Daley Park), Group may gather for their event “Teen Trend Meetup”
  • Saturday, July 16 at 6:00pm: 131 W Erie (near Chinese Consulate), Group will gather for their cause “Falun Dafa Group Meditation, Rally, Vigil to Call for End to Chinese Communist Party’s 23-year Persecution of Falun Gong”
  • Sunday, July 17 at 12:15pm: 919 N Michigan (Louis Vuitton), Group will gather for their cause “Fur Belongs on Animals, Not on People”
  • Wednesday, July 20 at 8:00am: 121 N LaSalle (City Hall), Group will gather/ride for their cause “Bike Jam for a Bike Grid – City Council Edition”
  • Thursday, July 21 at 12:00pm: 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza), Group will gather for their cause “Free R Kelly! OneMoreTimeForKellz”
  • Friday, July 22 at 12:00pm: 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza), Group will gather for their cause “Free R Kelly! OneMoreTimeForKellz”
  • Saturday, July 23 at 9:00am: 401 S Plymouth to 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza), Group will gather/march for their event “2022 Disability Pride Parade”
  • Saturday, July 23 at 2:00pm: 100 W Randolph (Thompson Center), Group will gather for their cause “Peaceful Omnipotent Assembly – Prison Reform and Community Reform”
  • Sunday, July 24 at 11:00am: 801 S Loomis (Arrigo Park), Group will gather for their cause “Bring Columbus Back to Chicago!”
  • Sunday, July 24 at 2:00pm: 835 N Michigan (Water Tower Place) to 201 E Randolph (Millennium Park), Group will gather/march for their cause “Proclaim Russia a State Sponsor of Terrorism”
  • Monday, July 25 at 6:00pm: 122 S Michigan (Philippine Consulate), Group will gather for their cause “Reject the Marcos II Regime! Chicago People’s State of the Nation Address”
  • Tuesday, July 26 at 12:00pm: 401 N Michigan (Pioneer Court), Group will gather/march for their cause “Allied Pilots Association”
  • Thursday, July 28 to Sunday, July 31: 300 S Columbus (Grant Park), Group will gather for their event “Lollapalooza Music Festival 2022”
  • Friday, July 29 at 5:30pm: 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza), Group will gather/ride for their cause “Chicago Critical Mass”

Safety Tips Near/During Protests

  • If you see something suspicious, report it
  • Carry water and stay hydrated
  • Choose a landmark to meet at in case you are separated from your group
  • Utilize the buddy system
  • Remain alert and be observant of surroundings
  • Leave any valuables at home
  • Do not jump any barricades
  • Secure handbags and wallets
  • Stay calm and pleasant
  • Follow your own instincts
  • Leave yourself room to move quickly

Grant Park Street Closures for Lollapalooza Music Festival

  • Balbo Drive from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive is currently closed through Sunday, August 7; Balbo closure extends to Michigan Avenue on Monday, July 25, 8 p.m. and remains closed through Monday, August 1
  • Jackson Drive from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive is closed Monday, July 18 morning through Saturday, August 6; Jackson closure extends to Michigan Avenue on Monday, July 25 8 p.m. and remains closed through Monday, August 1
  • Columbus from Monroe to Roosevelt will be closed Monday, July 25, 8 p.m. through Monday, August 1; the closure on Columbus is extended to Randolph Street on Wednesday, July 27 at 11:59 p.m. and continues through Monday, August 1. Additional northbound center lanes on Columbus from 13th Street to Roosevelt Road will be closed on Monday, July 25 at 8 p.m., with Columbus reopening on Monday, August 1.
  • Ida B Wells is closed from Michigan to Columbus on Monday, July 25 at 8 p.m. and remains closed through Monday, August 1.
  • Monroe Street from Michigan to DuSable Lake Shore Drive is closed Wednesday, July 27 at 11:59 p.m. through 6:30 a.m. Monday, August 1.
