BOMA/Chicago Preparedness Committee Meeting Notes for July 20, 2022

Titan Security is a proud participant in the leadership of the BOMA/Chicago Preparedness Committee, dedicated to the safety of high rise commercial structures in the City of Chicago. Minutes from the most recent monthly meeting of the group on July 20, 2022 are shared below.

  • Meeting held via Zoom, with approximately 40 attendees
  • Hosted by Amy Masters (BOMA), Erin Belknap (Sterling Bay), and Tom Henkey (Titan Security)
  • Bob Long (Chicago Police Department) provided overview of the local fusion center, the Crime Prevention & Information Center or CPIC
  • Edgar Castro (Titan Security) provided a recap of a recent inadvertent “active assailant” alert sent in error by a tenant at Willis Tower
  • Steve Caluris (ChicagoFIRST) and Amy Masters provided overview of the Chicago Public Private Task Force (CPPTF) orientation sessions at the emergency operations center (EOC)
  • Public sector partner briefings included:
    • Chicago Police Department 1st District: Gun seizures in Central Business District up significantly; vehicle thefts still elevated; parking garages a concern for theft and large gatherings; Lollapalooza starts 07/28 
    • Chicago Police Department 18th District: Gun seizures up; parking garages and late-night bars remain concerns; drifting/drag racing ordinance pending; Medinah Temple in River North will be temporary casino location
    • Chicago Fire Department: Responses up seasonally; dedicating resources to CBD during special events
    • Department of Homeland Security / Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (DHS/CISA): Active shooter webinar fully booked in August, another pending; suspicious activity reporting remains critical function
    • Chicago Transit Authority: Security briefing included current and pending efforts; new technology and private security has made slight reduction in crime this month
    • Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC): Special event season in full swing; EOC training hosted by hospital association has openings on 07/25 if interested
  • Next meeting will be Tuesday, August 16, 2022 – virtual/remote format
