Chicago Protests and Events: July 1 to July 15, 2023
In coordination with our cross-sector public safety partners, we are monitoring the following special events and demonstrations in or near the Chicago Loop in the near future.
Anticipated Protests and Events
- Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2: Grant Park, Group will gather for their event “NASCAR Street Race Chicago” *
- Saturday, July 1 at 1:00pm: 230 S Dearborn (Federal Plaza), Group will gather for their cause “Protesting is Not a Crime: Drop the Charges Against the Tampa Bay 5”
- Saturday, July 1 at 10:00pm: 600 E Grand (Navy Pier), Group will gather for their event “Navy Pier Fireworks Display” **
- Tuesday, July 4 at 12:00pm: 230 S Dearborn (Federal Plaza), Group will gather for their cause “Boycott 4th of July: Police Brutality”
- Thursday, July 6 at 11:45am: 180 N Michigan (Egyptian Consulate), Group will gather for their cause “Protest the Egyptian Government for Animal Abuse!”
- Friday, July 7 at 2:00pm: 500 W Madison (Israeli Consulate), Group will gather for their cause “Jenin Resists: Emergency Protest” ***
- Saturday, July 8 at 12:00pm: 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza), Group will gather for their cause “Stop Nuclear Terrorism: Hands Off from Belarus and Ukraine”
- Sunday, July 9 at 11:00am: 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza) to 230 S Dearborn (Federal Plaza), Group will gather/march for their cause “International March for the Relief of Haiti”
- Sunday, July 9 at 2:30pm: 806 N Michigan (Water Tower), Group will gather for their cause “#DemandPunishmentForRussianWarCrimes”
- Tuesday, July 11 at 12:00pm: 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza) to 201 E Ohio (Serbian Consulate), Group will gather/march for their cause “Srebrenica Genocide Commemoration Day”
- Wednesday, July 12 at 6:00pm: 219 S Dearborn (Federal Plaza), Group will gather for their cause “Free the Tampa 5! Solidarity Rally!”
- Saturday, July 15 at 2:00pm: 8 S Michigan, Group will gather/march for their cause “Fake Clinics: A Rally and March in Chicago”
- Saturday, July 15 at 6:30pm: 100 W Erie (Chinese Consulate), Group will gather for their cause “Falun Dafa Group Meditation Exercises and Candlelight Vigil to Commemorate Falun Gong”
- Saturday, July 15 at 9:45pm: 600 E Grand (Navy Pier), Group will gather for their event “Navy Pier Drone Show and Fireworks Display” **
Notes/Analysis
* = Expect extensive street closures and traffic disruptions through at least July 5
** = Fireworks displays continue throughout summer, each Wednesday at 9pm and Saturday at 10pm; Drone show for Navy Pier birthday at 9:45pm on July 15
*** = Follows extensive recent violence in the West Bank and Gaza; Group may meet elsewhere in Loop and march to Israeli Consulate
Event/Protest Best Practices
- If you see something suspicious, report it
- Carry water and stay hydrated
- Choose a landmark to meet at in case you are separated from your group
- Utilize the buddy system
- Remain alert and be observant of surroundings
- Leave any valuables at home
- Do not jump any barricades
- Secure handbags and wallets
- Stay calm and pleasant
- Follow your own instincts
- Leave yourself room to move quickly
