Streets throughout the downtown Chicago area will be closed beginning Wednesday, October 9. Closures for the Chicago Marathon will conclude at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14. These closures will impact high traffic areas including Lake Shore Drive, Wacker Drive, Michigan Avenue and the area around Millennium Park and Grant Park.

Parking and Race Day Routes
Beginning early Sunday morning, parking restrictions will be in effect along the course. For public safety and traffic flow, the towing of vehicles along the route and other posted “No Parking Zones” will be strictly enforced. Motorists are encouraged to read signage before parking and should call 3-1-1 to locate a towed vehicle.

Public Transportation
As always, public transportation is encouraged if heading to the Marathon or other destinations in the impacted areas. For specific schedule information, visit Metra.com. The City has worked with licensed Transportation Network Providers (TNP rideshare services) to ensure that pick-up and drop-off locations are available throughout the city, in geo-fenced areas that are a safe distance off the route.
Emergency, Traffic and Weather Notifications
OEMC will continue to monitor the event in collaboration with public safety partners and the Chicago Police Department will enforce race day restrictions along the route as well as facilitate traffic. - Monday, June 10: Ida B. Wells Dr. will close from Michigan Ave. to Columbus Dr. starting at 12:01 a.m. to allow for construction of the main viewing areas; and limited parking restrictions will be put in place along southbound Columbus Dr. between Jackson Dr. and Balbo Dr.
- Wednesday, June 19 to Thursday, June 20: Temporary road closure from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on northbound Michigan Ave. from Congress Circle to Jackson Dr.to allow for a pedestrian walkway to be installed while viewing structures are being assembled.
- Wednesday, June 26 – Beginning at 8 p.m.: Northbound traffic lane closure on Congress Circle.

Reopening Schedule: The northbound section of DuSable Lake Shore Dr. is set to reopen on Monday, July 8 at 6 a.m. After the event, select streets will gradually reopen.
Priority Streets: The priority streets for reopening are DuSable Lake Shore Dr., Michigan Ave., and Columbus Dr. Other street closures will remain in place until the demobilization of the track wall, fence, and viewing structures is completed. Demobilization: Street closures will continue until the track wall, fence, and viewing structures are demobilized. All NASCAR-related demobilization activities are expected to conclude by the end of the day on July 18th.

- DuSable Lake Shore Dr. Northbound will remain open from South Shore Dr. to I-55 merger.
- To visit the Museum Campus from the South: Exit DuSable Lake Shore Dr. at 31st St. and utilize Fort Dearborn Dr. to proceed north and access 18th Dr.
- To visit the Museum Campus from the North: Access Stevenson Expressway (I-55N)/ and merge onto N/DuSable Lake Shore Dr. Exit at 18th Dr.
- DuSable Lake Shore Dr. Southbound will remain open from Hollywood Blvd. to Randolph St.
- Inner DuSable Lake Shore Dr. will remain open in both directions.
- Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) will remain open in both directions.
- Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) will remain open in both directions. Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) will remain open in both directions.
- Stevenson Expressway (I-55) will remain open in both directions.
In the Loop – the following Streets will remain open: State St., Dearborn St., Clark St., LaSalle St., Wells St., Franklin St., Upper Wacker Dr., Lower Wacker Dr., Randolph St., Washington St., Madison St., Roosevelt Rd. – West of Michigan Ave., 18th St.
The Chicago Park District will prioritize public access during the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, keeping more than half of the park open during the event, including set-up and tear-down. Access to popular park features like Buckingham Fountain, Butler Field, and Lower Hutchinson Field will remain accessible to the public with minimal restrictions that equate to less than one-fifth of event operation days.
In addition, NASCAR will host free festival activities associated with the Chicago Street Race in Butler Field on July 6 and 7, inviting the public to join in the race week festivities and learn more about NASCAR without the price of admission. Maggie Daley Park, Cancer Survivor’s Garden, and the Museum Campus will remain open and accessible throughout the event.

Report Suspicious Activity: If You See Something Say Something. The city reminds the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity. If you notice something suspicious, notify onsite security or call 9-1-1. If You See Something, Say Something™ is a national anti-terrorism public awareness campaign that emphasizes the importance of reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
Pole Markers/Location Identifiers: For public safety on the lakefront, race event and concert attendees are reminded to be aware of the numbers attached to the poles throughout the Grant Park area to help reference their location within the park if you call 9-1-1 in an emergency. 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers will be able to provide the location to first responders. They can also be used between friends and family members as a meeting point if you become separated. For complete details, click HERE.
Public Transportation: As for any large–scale event, public transportation is encouraged, and both CTA and Metra will provide additional service for the event. Motorists in the areas around Grant Park and the Loop during the week leading up to and during race weekend should be prepared for heavy traffic and possible reroutes. There will be some street closures to ensure public safety. Traffic Control Aides (TCAs) will be on site to direct flow and impacts from heavy traffic.

Memorial Day Weekend Events
- Lakefront Beaches Open
City of Chicago beaches will open for the Summer on Friday, May 24. The Chicago Park District urges patrons to enjoy the beaches safely and responsibly and look for “No Swimming Allowed” signage that indicates that swimming is not sanctioned in that area. Visitors should consult the district’s website or social media platforms to ensure water conditions are safe for swimming before heading out to the beach and only enter the water when a lifeguard is on duty. Swim hours are 11am to 7pm, daily, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Swimming anywhere else along the lakefront is not permitted. The highly anticipated festival is expected to draw fans to Chicago’s lakefront for the two-day sold out event. Concertgoers can enter the festival on Buckingham Fountain Plaza located at Columbus Drive and Ida B. Wells Drive. All attendees must be 18 years or older to enter the festival and this is strictly enforced. The festival boundary is from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Roosevelt Road to Ida B. Wells. All motorists, pedestrians and residents in the area are reminded of the street closures and traffic impacts throughout the weekend. In cooperation with our cross-sector safety partners, Titan Security is monitoring the events around the City of Chicago’s 2024 St. Patrick’s Day Parade and River Dyeing, set to be held on Saturday, March 16. The following activities around the celebration are listed below along with additional festivities to be held on Sunday, March 17.
Road Closures
Expect street closures as early as 8 a.m. including Columbus Drive from Roosevelt Road to Wacker Drive and east/west streets in those boundaries. Streets within the boundary of Monroe Street between Michigan Avenue and DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be closed. DuSable Lake Shore Drive or State Street can be used as an alternate route. River Dyeing
The Chicago River will be dyed green beginning at 10 a.m. just west of the Columbus bridge to the east of Orleans before Wolf Point. During the dyeing of the river, bridges will be closed to spectators, however, the Columbus, LaSalle and Orleans bridges will remain open for vehicular/pedestrian traffic. The Chicago Riverwalk will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, March 15, through the day on Saturday, March 16 until 6 a.m. on Sunday, March 17. The river dyeing can be viewed along the river from Upper Wacker Drive.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off at 12:15 p.m. at Balbo and Columbus Drive proceeding north to Monroe Street.
Parade organizers and the city will be postured accordingly to ensure public safety to promote a family-friendly environment. Entry to the parade route along Columbus begins at 11 a.m. and will only be permitted at Jackson and Ida B. Wells Drive (formerly Congress Drive) and all entry points will have security checkpoints where all purses and bags will be checked. Coolers, alcoholic beverages, camelbacks, or personal water bottles will not be permitted along the parade route.
Grant Park and Lakefront Poles Markers/Location Identifiers: For public safety on the lakefront, residents and visitors are reminded to be aware of the numbers attached to the light poles throughout the Grant Park area and along the lakefront. The green signs with white letters and numbers are also located from 5700 N. DuSable Lake Shore Drive to 6600 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and on the lakefront from Oak Street to Fullerton and Montrose to Foster Avenue to help residents reference their location within the park to friends, family and first responders if there is an emergency and you call 9-1-1.

Millennium Park Closures
The following areas of the Park will be closed to the public until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16:
- East/West Walkways
- Lurie Garden
- BP Bridge
- Cloud Gate
- North, South and Central Promenades
- Crown Fountain
- Wrigley Square
- North and South Boeing Galleries
- Jay Pritzker Pavilion; including the Great Lawn
The Millennium Hall Restaurant will open for business at 10:00 a.m. with tickets/reservations being required to enter.
Maggie Daley Park Closures
Partial closure of the park will start at 8:00 am and park will reopen at 3:00 pm or at the discretion of Chicago Police Department.
Iron barricades and mesh fencing will be utilized to restrict access to closed areas in the park. After the River Dyeing, the families with children will have access to the parade and playground areas by walking southbound on the west side of the park.
There will be restricted access to the playground. Children ages 12 and under, will be allowed into the playground at either the east or west entrances only with their parents or guardian.
Chicago Riverwalk Closures
The Chicago Riverwalk will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, March 15, through the day on Saturday, March 16 until 6 p.m. The river dyeing can be viewed along the river from Upper Wacker Drive.
Shammrock’n the Block Party
Old St. Patrick’s Catholic Church located at 700 W Adams Street in Chicago will be holding their annual St. Patrick’s Day party on Saturday, March 16 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. at Amazing Space located at 625 W. Adams.
Archer Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Saturday, March 16
The Archer Avenue parade steps off at noon at Archer Avenue and South Oak Park and proceeds south from Oak Park to Archer Avenue; east on Archer to Narragansett; south on Narragansett to 5600 S. Narragansett. The parade is expected to conclude at 2 p.m.
South Side Irish Parade – Sunday, March 17
The South Side Irish Parade steps off at noon at 103rd and Western Avenue, marching south to 115th and Western Avenue. Parking restrictions in the area begin at 8 a.m. and will remain until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, but anyone parking in the area that day should read signage before parking. Expect parking restrictions on both sides of the street from 103rd to 112th Streets along Western Avenue. The staging area is located on Western Avenue from 99th to 103rd Streets and Bell to Maplewood Avenues. Street closures along the parade route as well as the staging area may begin as early as 8 a.m. The parade is expected to end at 3 p.m., the disbanding area is located on Western Avenue from 115th to 119th Streets. Northwest Side Irish Parade – Sunday, March 17
The parade steps off at noon at Onahan School, at 6634 W. Raven St. proceeding south on Neola Avenue to Northwest Highway and north to Harlem Avenue in the Norwood Park neighborhood.
